Co-Investigator

Richard Chandler is Professor of Statistics and Head of the Department of Statistical Science at University College London (UCL). His expertise includes spatiotemporal modelling, uncertainty analysis and evidence synthesis for environmental applications, in particular around hydrology and climate. He advises policymakers on risk and uncertainty in applications such as nuclear safety assessment and volcanic ash risks to aviation; sits on the steering groups of the International Surface Temperature Initiative and the International Meetings for Statistical Climatology; and is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics in Beijing. He served as joint editor of the Royal Statistical Society, Series C (Applied Statistics) between 2011 and 2014, and led the RACER (Robust Assessment and Communication of Environmental Risk) consortium funded under the NERC Probability, Uncertainty and Risk in the Natural Environment (PURE) programme from 2012 to 2016. In addition to more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, he is co-author of a highly regarded book on environmental trend analysis.
