University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Onisimo Mutanga is a Professor and DST/NRF Chair on land use planning and management. He completed his PhD on hyperspectral remote sensing of tropical grass quality and quantity at Wageningen University-ITC (Netherlands) in 2004. His expertise lies in vegetation pattern and condition analysis in the face of global and land use change using remote sensing. He integrates ecology, biodiversity conservation and remote sensing to model the impact of forest fragmentation, pests, diseases and invasive species on agricultural and natural ecosystems.
