Professor Edilegnaw Wale

Edilegnaw Wale Zegeye is Associate Professor in Agricultural Economics at the School of Agricultural, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. His research focus areas are the economics of water use in smallholder agriculture, natural resources economics/agro-biodiversity economics, agricultural development economics/the economics of smallholder agriculture, cost benefit analysis of development projects, programmes and policies, and impact assessment/technology adoption. He began his career at Alemaya University in Ethiopia, was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bonn, Germany, and worked with the Genetic Resources Policy Initiative (GRPI) project of Bioversity International in Kenya as an economist. He has a BSc in Agricultural Economics, Alemaya University; an MSc in Agricultural Development Economics from Wageningen University (Netherlands); and a Doctoral degree in Agricultural Economics (his thesis won an award) from the University of Bonn. Wale has authored and co-authored more than 80 papers, ten of which have won prizes, and many of which have been presented at international, regional and national conferences. He is a reviewer for various internationally accredited journals and has been a consultant to IFPRI and ILRI among others.
