Abbie Chapman
Abbie is an ecologist who uses spatial-analysis tools to investigate how the food crops being grown around the world might impact biodiversity, both now and in the future as the climate changes. She is working with other SHEFS team members to quantify the global environmental impacts of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption for healthier diets in the UK, South Africa, and India. Abbie has worked in an international, interdisciplinary team before, investigating the impacts of agricultural expansion on biodiversity in Africa, but also brings a unique perspective, as she completed her PhD developing a trait-based approach to study the biodiversity of deep-sea hydrothermal-vent fauna. This means she is used to making best use of relatively sparse data and brings together geography/oceanography and ecology to study the potential influences of the wider environment and humans on biodiversity.
